REACH is a new European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use (EC 1907/2006). It deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances. The new law entered into force on 1st of June 2007.
The aim of REACH is to improve the protection of human health and the environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances.
The pre-register phase of products put on the market will be imposed by European Community from the 1st of June 2008.
But article 2 – paragraph 7b and annex V point 7 of European Regulations exempt from registration all industrial minerals that is to say our products:
“For minerals which are in the nature, if they are not chemically modified, it is estimated that such a registration is not appropriated or necessary. Their exemption does not undermine the goal of European Regulations.”
So SNL has not to record their products made of natural minerals. Our products not concerned by REACH are:
- CEN standard sand EN 196-1
- Standard sand EN 196-9 for heat hydration
- Standard sand EN 480-13 for masonry cement
- Standard sands BS 1881 part 131 and BS 4550
- ASTM sands C778
- Replacement or density sand
- Sand on demand
